NI Casual Deckhand (Kauai)

JOB PURPOSE/
Summary:
To perform seaman/deckhand duties and general maintenance duties as directed.
Essential Functions:
Perform general maintenance to vessel and vessel equipment.
Perform sanitary duties such as cleaning tug restrooms.
Perform seaman/deckhand duties such as handling mooring lines, tow wires, setting blocks, lifting and securing bridles, splicing lines, etc.
Dock barges.
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
Assist Operator or Engineer/Deckhand with preventive maintenance such as greasing deck machinery.
Test and operate deck machinery.
Assist Engineer/Deckhand in engine room.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate and utilize basic hand and hand-held power tools.
Education/Training:
High school or GED equivalent required.
Must have sufficient verbal, reading and writing skills as necessitated by the job (i.
e.
, coordinating tasks with co-workers, receiving instructions from supervisor(s), reading instructions/directions, writing statements/reports.
Experience:
Two (2) years tugboat experience is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS Works indoors and outdoors in various weather and sea conditions in wet, humid, noisy and dusty areas.
Occasionally uses paints, solvents and thinners.
Equipment use:
Uses basic hand and hand-held power tools.
Operates deck equipment and Company van when necessary.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Document with Ordinary Seaman Endorsement.
Able bodied Seaman Endorsement preferred.
STCW 95 preferred.
Valid Hawaii Driver's License.
